Archaeological evidence reveals that Conimbriga was inhabited, at least between the 9th century BC and 7th-8th century of our era. When the Romans arrived in the second half of the 1st century BC, Conimbriga was a flourishing village. Thanks to the peace established in Lusitânia operated a rapid Romanization of the indigenous population and Conimbriga became a prosperous city. Conimbriga is currently an area designated as a national monument, set by law in 1910.
